Working in San Diego
When you work remotely you're not always going to want to chill in your PJs alone in your house.
You need to venture out into the world and make friends, get caffeine, live your life. San Diego is an amazing city for finding little tucked away spaces for feeling productive and creative. After living here for two years, I can definitely say there are some special spots you should hit up.
Needs:
WiFi (obviously)
Food (I usually post up for a whole morning or afternoon and mamma needs to eat)
Outlets (I always forget this when I walk in but it’s necessary)
Wants:
Medium noise level (hate when it gets too hectic)
Sunlight (I am a San Diegan after all)
Budget-friendly (saving for travel perpetually)
Picks:
1) Caffe Calabria
I am a sucker for coziness. Give me a warm americano, some soft lighting, and deep wooden furniture and I’m sold. Caffe Calabria delivers on ambiance in every way. They roast their own delicious coffee that is perfect for when you need to hunker down and focus. Oh, and did I mention they make fresh woodfire ‘za? They do and it’s amazing.
3933 30th St San Diego, CA 92104
Hours: Monday - Tuesday 6 am - 3 pm
Wednesday - Friday, 6 am - 11 pm
Saturday - Sunday, 7 am - 11 pm
2) The Lazy Hummingbird
If there is one word to describe San Diego, I think that it would be ‘chill’. If you want to go to the epicenter of chill you head to Ocean Beach, specifically the Lazy Hummingbird. Tiny, relaxed, and artsy as it’s neighborhood, this spot is the perfect place for a smoothie, vegan nosh, and some creative brainstorming.
Sunset Cliffs Blvd & Cable St., Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA 92110
Open daily 6:30 am - 6:30 pm

3) Java Earth Cafe
Imagine someone has an adorable cottage and turns it into a cafe- that is Java Earth. It has a warm homey feel and seriously good veg and vegan options. Take your work outside on their porch and soak in the San Diego sun!
4978 Cass Street, San Diego, CA, 92109
Hours: Monday - Friday, 6am-4pm
Saturday - Sunday, 6:30am-4pm
4) Fig Tree Cafe
Two words- truffle fries. But besides that, there is a lot to like about Fig Tree. It’s ramshackle charm with vines, random chairs, and cozy corners keep me coming back. If you want to get work done while feeling like you are in a garden, this is the place for you!
Locations in North Pacific Beach, Liberty Station, and Hillcrest.
Hours: Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m
5) San Diego Libraries
San Diego has some seriously spectacular libraries. As a self-proclaimed book nerd, I tend to spend a lot of time there anyway. But they also make a perfect spot to set up camp and get work done remotely.

6) Better Buzz
I’m not sure what is in their coffee but that stuff gets me GOING. Their motto is “Life is Better Buzzed”. I totally agree. If you are looking for a spot to amp up your day this is the place to be.

7) Bird Rock Coffee Roasters
I love to get into La Jolla when I can. This is a great spot to stop and catch up with friends or other remote workers. The big open windows and breezy and the decor is simple and straightforward. They roast a damn good cup of coffee, too.

8) Copa Vida
I love the feel inside Copa Vida. With huge ceilings and a welcoming vibe, it is the perfect place to stop and grab lunch and get some serious work done. It is nice to be downtown in the center of San Diego! Be aware that they don’t have wifi Sat-Sun 9am-3pm.
